Eating Semi-Clean

Clean eating: worthwhile, yet hard to train yourself into...Yes, you have to train yourself.
I am trying to get back in the game...if I was ever in it to begin with.  I know how to eat clean, super clean, but it isn't a lifestyle that I can keep up with.  I need food that is flavorful, yet healthy.
Here's what I ate today:
Breakfast:  3 eggs (1 whole, 2 whites) and a rice cake
Lunch:  3 hard-boiled eggs (1 whole, 2 whites), bell pepper with light dressing, and a few baked chips
Snack:  Syntha- 6 protein shake (Banana is my favorite flavor)
Dinner:  ground turkey with roasted corn, black beans, and tomatoes (with a small amount of cheese) with a side of fresh orange bell pepper
**Dinner instructions:  I got a pound of ground turkey and cooked it in a pan on the stove.  I got a Steamers package of Southwest Corn, but instead of steaming it I backed it at 400 on a cookie sheet (it allowed the corn to become more crispy and, in my opinion, brought the flavors out more), I added in black beans and a can of Rotel mild mix and a dash of cheese...stir and enjoy.  It is super easy and made a large amount that I plan to pre-package for the rest of the week.
As you can see, it is much easier for me to eat cleaner-ish during the day, at night I feel like I need a meal, a filling meal.  I have found when I do not eat a good meal at night I wake up in the middle of the night hungry and end up eating the first fatty food that my fingers find...not a good cycle.  Another advantage I find with eating a filling meal at night is that it is easier to avoid the 'snacks' that my husband finds, i.e. cereal, Little Debbie cakes, etc.  If I am full it is much easier for me to stay away from the 'good bad cabinet' in the kitchen.

Happy eating and exercising!

  1. It's so hard to get back in the swing of things! I find once I get into a clean eating routine, it's all good, but once something throws me off track, I'm hooped!

    1. I agree it is SO hard. I can totally identify with you and the getting thrown off track. I do this whole guilt cycle that is really an eating cycle, because I feel bad about eating bad? Not healthy.
I am sure you could give me some tips on running. I am trying to get into running. My goal is a half-marathon, but I am just hoping for a 5k right now.
