Working Out and Weighing In

I went to the doctors office and the nurse happily says, "You've lost weight since the last time you were here."  Well, that would be great if the woman hadn't written down the wrong number last time!  How does a "0" become a "6"?!  Anyways, I had lost a couple of ounces, which is good considering in between those visits was the stress of a miscarriage and two vacations.

When I started the Summer I didn't really have a training plan in mind, I just knew I wanted to lose weight.  So I said I was going to lose 30 pounds.  Now, let's just stop right there.  I know that is not a healthy goal, I know that now.  I am starting to get this whole weight loss thing in perspective.  Now, back to the 30 pound thing.  I started exercising at the beginning of Summer at our local gym and the weight wasn't just falling off like I saw fit, so I got frustrated and quit.  Then, I started again and had a miscarriage.  It has been a Summer of trials with this whole exercise thing, but I think I am finally getting it.

Now, I finally have a goal in mind.  I wanted to say a half-marathon (which I will do one day), but in keep obtainable goals, I am aiming for a 10k.  I now have a schedule and have downloaded apps and training plans to keep me on track.

Right now, I am using the Hal Higdon 10K Novice Training Plan.  Here is a picture I have on my phone to give you an idea of the plan.  It is free.  I am still not sure of the whole cross-fit thing, and I am trying to do research to get a better idea of what exactly that entails.  But I have a plan of some sort and a goal for the first time in a long time!

Last night I was being a total procrastinator and waited until I couldn't run outside, so I took to the treadmill.  Yes, I put it off, but at the end of the day I still did it, and for that I am proud.

  2. I love Hal Higdon's plans. I've done his half-marathon plan several times, as well as his full marathon plan. So when you do hit your 10K goal, definitely consider using his other plans too!

Good for you for coming up with a plan that works for you! That's what it's all about. :)

  3. Your sunset pictures are gorgeous! Keep up the great work!

I do weights on my "cross" days. I'll take a weights class at the gym or MAYBE do some at home.

  6. What a great plan!! The cross training can be anything from biking, elliptical, hiking, stair stepper or weights. I tend to go hiking when the weather is nice. Good luck!!

  7. I'm currently working on training for a 5K and I will definitely be training for a 10K when I'm finished. What app do you use for training? Does it let you map out your run path?

  8. following the WOW ladies....and you are doing it!! Already up to 3miles is awesome!
I'm doing a 5/2 plan with 5run days and the weekends are run-free. My crosstraining is a variety of stuff to keep it fun, either with p90x weights, a solid sweaty free weights days, or even just a Jillian video. It helps break it up for me.
