Back to blogging soon...

So, if you take them to read my blog you may have noticed I feel off the face of the earth.  To be honest, blogging became work...rather than something I was enjoying.  I could no longer keep up with my own favorite blogs because I was furiously trying to get my post ready for the next day all while having two jobs (wanna-be photographer and a full time teacher).  I miss blogging...the roots of it, not the sponsorships (which can be great, don't get me wrong), guest post, etc.  So, starting after Christmas I will be back to semi-regular blogging.  I will blog when I want to...not every single day, but a heck of a lot more than I am now.  I will also be sharing so news...so, if your up for it stay tuned.

Merry Christmas Eve from my Momma's house to yours!!!

Blogging Issues

Blogging issues make me sad....

Hey all, hang with as my blog designer emailed me and notified me that parts of my blog (navigation bar, picture/intro) are down due to a site crashing.  I apologize for this, but I won't be posting until issues are fixed.

Thanks all!

DIY Fabric Banner

Now that I have gotten into photography I am ALWAYS looking for simple (cheap) props that add some texture and definition to the background of pictures.  I have seen many variations of fabric banners (or any banners for that matter) used in pictures, so I decided to try my hand at making my own.

Things you'll need:
1 yard of at least 4 coordinating fabrics...but try not to go all "matchy matchy" or it takes some of the character away from the banner.
3 yards of twine (at least, I cut mine way longer because I didn't want it to be too short)
Scissors

Optional:
lace ribbon or other type of ribbon (I used a lace because I was going for a more vintage feel with my banner).

The next thing you'll need to do is decide from which side you are going to start cutting (this is a step that was not in any of the tutorials I found) if you unfold your material you will notice that you have the dimensions of a rectangle, with the longer sides being your yard.  If you decided to cut along the shorter side you will end up with longer pieces of fabric, therefore ending with a banner that is longer in lenth, but shorter in width.  If you decide to make your cuts along the long side (yard long) you will end up with a shorter length, but longer width.  I cut along the longer side.

You will need to make 1-2 inch slits all along the fabric. DO NOT try to measure or be perfect here...it doesn't matter...I promise!

Then, simply begin to rip the fabric along the cuts you made (this would be a great way to get kids involved).

You will end up with however many piles of fabric that you chose to use.

Then, you will fold the strip of fabric in half (again, perfection is not the goal).  You will then place the halfed part under your twine and then bring the two ends up over the twine and put them through the top piece of fabric.  Then pull until tight on the twine.

Make a pattern of your choice with your fabric.  Repeat the process until you are done.

Note: I put the lace ribbon about every 3 sets (or every 16 pieces of fabric), as the ribbon was pretty expensive (even 50% off) and I didn't have enough to include it with every set of 4 fabric pieces.

Now, you have a fabric banner that would be cute for so many things.

Ideas for use:
photography prop
above a bed
across a mirror
the skirt on a crib
and many more

Here is one way I used it in pictures....

photography: a royal affair

Just stopping in quickly to say hi!  I have been really really busy and I am not complaining, but it has reflected in my blogging.  I am working on several "how-to" pieces and a few other things, so stay tuned.

For now, I will leave you with some pictures from my session this weekend...

Weekend happenings a day late

Sorry, to have sucked at blogging the past two weeks, I have just been extremely busy.  If you email me, I WILL get back to you, it just may be a couple of days.  Sorry, but sometimes real life prevails over blogging.

Anyways....

Is Tuesday too late for weekend happenings?  My blog, my rules?  K.

This weekend is my towns big festival...I know we all have them some are weird names.  Ours is the Spoon Bread Festival...and yes, you can get all the Spoon Bread your heart desires there. On Friday we always have Balloon Glow to kick of the festivities.   Here is one from that to give you an idea of what it is like.  Pictures could never really do it justice as there are even more balloons scattered out through a lawn area, but you get the idea.

Then, on Saturday I was supposed to do two sessions of pictures, but it was pouring the rain, so I did one (the couples session).  Here are few of them.  As you can tell I am trying to play with levels, exposure, saturation, etc....it is all so much to learn and getting everything juuuusssstttt right can be hard at times.  I look at these and already see things I want to change before the final edits are done and ready to give to the couple. Any advice from all of you photography people out there on editing tips, tricks, or resources?

Dear Future Skinny Self

Dear Future Skinny Self,
Wow, look at you now.  Do you remember how you felt when you were typing this?  Do ya?  Aren't you glad that you stuck with it and followed through?  Yes, there were times when you didn't think you could and there were times when you thought it would just be easier to be chubby, but you stuck with it and not only can you see the light at the end of the tunnel, but you are basking in it!

Now, let's talk about some things of importance....
  • Now that you are skinny you might be inclined to try to wear something tight on the top and bottom, but let us remember that this is not cute.  If you do skinny jeans pair it with a nice flowey shirt.  If you do a tighter fitting shirt make sure your pants aren't painted on.
  • You still have hips and always will, so plan your clothing accordingly.
  • Don't think because you are skinny now that you can eat whatever you want and not workout...it doesn't work like that.  This weight loss/ control thing is always going to be in maintenance.
  • Remember what it is like to be chubby don't be that person who loses weight an turns into a douche bag...I know you won't be, but I have seen it happen many times so go ahead and check yourself right now.  You good?  Okay, moving on.
  • Just because you are skinny now doesn't mean you are above the use of Spanx those things will make you look all smooth and shit.
  • Don't feel bad about buying some new clothes for yourself.  Believe in yourself enough to invest in some cute clothes!
  • Also, realize that not all fads work for your body type.  You have a pear shaped body and that just doesn't look good in everything, even if you are a skinny minnie now.
Love your fatty, fluffy, chubby totally awesome self,
                                                                                      Katelyn

We'll just call it: Photography Monday

Mondays have kinda become the day I share whatever I did with photography over the weekend and I must say, I don't mind. It is crazy to me to think it was just a month ago that I was posting about what kind of camera to buy and now I currently have a session every weekend from here through October (with exception of Fall Break, which I don't know if I am going to schedule anything or not).

I have three sessions next weekend: a pregnancy reveal sunrise session, a family sunset session with a 3 and 5 year old, and a 2 month old.

I am still in kinda  a haze of it all.  I don't know if this is just beginners luck, as I know soon colder whether will set in and not many people want to brave the outdoors in the cold for pictures.  Nonetheless, I am loving it right now and trying to not think too hard about the what ifs of the future, but enjoy the journey of this.
